ICEE Updates Curriculum, Certification for ISO; Launches Free Advocate Network

The International Center for Enterprise Engagement at TheICEE.org has announced three new initiatives now that it has assumed direction of the curriculum and certification activities from it’s affiliate organization, the Enterprise Engagement Alliance at TheEEA.org--which will continue to publish ESM, conduct outreach for the field, and provide advisory services for solution providers and organizations seeking to profit from engagement through its Engagement Agency unit.

The International Center for Enterprise Engagement at TheICEE.org has announced the next generation Enterprise Engagement Alliance learning and certification program to conform with ISO certification processes; a new scheduled monthly and quarterly webinar training program to support it, and a new free Enterprise Engagement Advocate program to help executives and solution providers sell the concept of Enterprise Engagement to boards of directors, CEOs and the C-suite and to create a new "need" referral program for the emerging engagement field.

Explains Dr. Ron McKinley, Co-founder of ICEE, “The original Enterprise Engagement curriculum developed in 2009 was a breakthrough in two respects: it was the first to acknowledge the need for a strategic and systematic approach to engaging all stakeholders both inside and outside the organization, and it was the first to clearly address the need to align all stakeholder activities toward similar goals. We have updated the curriculum to more strategically address the ISO 10018 and Annex SL quality people management provisions; support the needs of auditors and developers of ISO-compliant programs and to align with ISO certification processes, which should include references and a face-to-face evaluation for certification. We have also tried to make it easier for candidates to prepare the way they do in other education: through the use of the EEA’s two books on Enterprise Engagement for CEOs and practitioners, new scheduled monthly and quarterly courses for Certified Engagement Practitioner (CEP) and Advanced Engagement Practitioner (AEP) candidates, and a primer we have created to provide people everything they need to know to get an overview of the field and prepare for the two exams.”

A Free Information Service for Enterprise Engagement Advocates

Dr. McKinley explains that the new initiatives are in part designed to address the key challenge standing in the way of progress. “Unfortunately, what the EEA has learned from its efforts since its creation in 2008, is that nothing really can happen without CEO support. It is very difficult to get to CEOs because in many cases people are intimidated, feel walled off, or fear they could be accused of criticizing the CEO when in fact Enterprise Engagement is simply another system like ISO 9001 to help organizations improve efficiency, performance, and experiences. The Enterprise Engagement Advocate program is designed to make the tools available for free to anyone who wishes to make the case for a CEO-led strategic and systematic approach to engaging all stakeholders.”

The new Enterprise Engagement Advocate program, Dr. McKinley explains, is a free service for both organizational practitioners and engagement solution providers seeking to bring a more strategic and systematic approach to engaging stakeholders to boards, CEOs, and other C-suite executives. By signing up, individuals receive useful news, research, and insights they can use to support their case, as well as access to resources and education from multiple education resources and solution providers, some of which offer discounts, referral fees and commissions to solution providers whose clients are in need of specific solutions they can’t provide. Solution providers can have a free basic listing in the directory, and there is an expanded program for those solution providers that wish to create an industry referral platform.  “The Enterprise Engagement Advocate program is a way of helping to create a new marketplace of advocates and experts for this vital new field,” says McKinley.

Updated Curriculum, Certifications to Align With ISO Standards

The updated Certified Engagement Practitioner and Advanced Engagement Practitioner programs no longer involve an online training or testing program. For the CEP program, which demonstrates a general understanding of and proficiency in the principles, framework, measures of Enterprise Engagement and ISO standards, candidates can prepare by: participating in an optional three-class scheduled monthly course preparation program for the Certified Engagement Practitioner program; reading the new Enterprise Engagement for CEOs 120-page book recently published by the Enterprise Engagement Alliance ($15.99 online; one free to EEA members), as well as a free primer available to Enterprise Engagement Advocates, which includes a list of the topics included in the exam.

The new CEP exam consists of a one-half hour live and recorded video webinar in which candidates are asked questions by a senior ICEE advisor based on the topics provided in the preparation primer. The recorded exam, confidential and available to the candidate, provides a transparent way of ensuring people live up to the standards of the CEP certification, Dr. McKinley pointed out.

The updated Advanced Engagement Practitioner program, which demonstrates the ability for someone to develop or audit an ISO-10018 compliant engagement process, requires both a 45-minute telephone exam as well as a written exercise demonstrating the ability to audit or develop an ISO-10018 compliant process. Candidates can apply for an auditor or developer certification only.

Candidates can prepare by: participating in an optional three-class quarterly course AEP preparation program for the Advanced Engagement Practitioner program; reading the Enterprise Engagement: The Roadmap 5th edition, published by the Enterprise Engagement Alliance ($36 online; one free to EEA corporate members) as well as a free primer available to Enterprise Engagement Advocates and EEA members, which includes a list of the topics in the exam as well as samples of an ISO 10018-compliant enterprise engagement process. Candidates who pass the oral and written exam receive a provisional ISO 10018 solution provider certification. They receive their full certification after they have completed their first actual audit or developed their first program for an organization under the observation of a senior ICEE advisor.

According to Bruce Bolger, Co-founder of ICEE, “It is clear that investors, business leaders, even politicians are recognizing that Enterprise Engagement, or whatever people want to call the need to strategically engage ‘all interested parties,’ is critical to sustainable organizational success, but beyond the hype there is no central place for people to find answers to all the issues related to a CEO-led strategic and systematic approach to engaging all stakeholders. The new network and ICEE education and certifications are designed to create a marketplace of experts who understand how to make the various tactics of Enterprise Engagement work more effectively together.”
