Program Details: Points accumulated with each new transaction; double points were awarded to employees who met or exceeded their goals. Branch managers earned points based on the banking office's total performance. If the office met its goal, everyone's points doubled. This encouraged teamwork. To launch the campaign, the bank issued a welcome kit, including a 128-page catalog featuring more than 1,200 merchandise items. A separate brochure included travel packages at different price points. On a quarterly basis, employees were entered in a sweepstakes for travel and merchandise prizes.

Objective: "Destination 2000" was Astoria Federal Savings Bank's largest employee performance program. Personal bankers, tellers, and managers at the bank's 87 offices earned destination points for referrals of nontraditional products, such as annuities and mutual funds. Points were also awarded for opening new checking accounts and improving transaction processing efficiency.

Results: The program's success prompted Astoria Federal and Don Jagoda Associates to launch a new campaign entitled STAR (Strive to Achieve Results) Rewards. This program includes merchandise and travel awards, as well as custom tailoring, Astoria-logo clothing, and desktop items.
